So I chose here...I’m sorry so I’ll put a spoiler image that hopefully covers up what I need to say
MAN THIS SEASON SUCKED, THE WRITING SUCKED, IT WAS SOOOOO RUSHED, WHY DID THEY BUTCHER IT

I made a comment earlier today expressing how I didn’t care if they killed everyone.
But I didn’t consider how I would react if the ending just plain sucked. And boy did it seriously suck. I’m a little disappointed but I'm having fun trash talking it and poking holes in the finale with the fiance.

Do finales ever live up to the hype?

Never seen GOT but the grill on that trunk is awful.

Clearly I should be grateful I invested time in reading the books rather than watching all the TV seasons...after all, no ending is better than a bad one .

When the council was voting in this episode, and pretty much any time I see people voting with yay and nay, I always think to myself...
“The horse says... doctor denied!”
Futurama for life

Overall I’m not completely disappointed. But I’m glad it’s done. I need some time to be excited for the spin offs.

You'll get a second chance assuming the books are ever finished

Nor could I. I gave it multiple chances, too.

It’s because they hate you supreme. Just. You.
Actually, it’s because they put 3 seasons worth of content in a 1 season bag. Also, hollywood sucks ass, which is why they rip off IP.

I strongly suspect that his version of events will recommence shortly...

So just as bad as this season?

I came to the show later, my wife was watching since the beginning. So I watched the last three seasons (or so). While much of this final season kind of sucked, due in large part to the need to compress everything into a very short time frame, I was okay with this final episode, in fact the final two episodes.
The whole show started out as a tale of the Lannisters, and it ended as a tale of the Lannisters. Jon was the only one who could poke Dany, either with his dick or with a knife, and he was the one who had to do the deed. Nobody else could have gotten that close (though I thought Tyrion might have earlier, at the top of the steps) . And the fact that Jon didn’t become king after killing the previous king (queen) meant that Dany had, in fact, broken the wheel. Sansa got to be queen in the North, which was always her destiny (though why the other lords didn’t say, “Fuck it, we want to be independent too” is beyond me), and Arya got to be Arya, which was fine.
Now, am I okay with Bran becoming king? Not really , it just feels kind of funny. But in the end, it’s another person who didn’t want to be king, and that’s probably the best for the people. Just like our elections, I have to question anybody who wants to be president. Which raises anther point, the business where Samwell wanted to turn it into a democracy felt forced and was just dumb. As for Jon, he seemed at peace with going back to his roots beyond the wall. He was reunited with his best bud Tormund, his direwolf (which he petted this time around), and even had a small smile at the end. So ultimately, I think they finished it about as well as they could. I’m cool with it.

Bran as King definitely feels like it’s out of nowhere. Almost like he got it because there were no other main characters left. I think the abolishing the 7 kingdoms idea would have worked but in the end I think viewers only really cared about the North anyways.
I guess an argument could be made that most of the realms were still fractured from the wars and dealing with power vacuums. Baratheons, Tyrells, and Martells are pretty much dead. I’m sure there are cadet branches and the like but that’s the stuff civil wars are made of.
Then again, I haven’t seen the episode yet so the questions may have been answered. :P

After it was over, I watched a six-minute recap of season 1 (a season I did not watch) . It felt like reading a history of the Middle Ages, with so many names and allegiances and marriages. I think that is what captured our attention at the start, and what was lost in the later episodes, as it turned into a sweeping Medieval soap opera. Ultimately, I’m okay with the ending, and I’m ready to move on to His Dark Materials in the fall.

Because the TV series overtook the book series, there was a deliberately different ending to the TV series to avoid spoiling the book. I strongly suspect they made the ending suck on purpose to direct more traffic towards the books.
Personally though I hope for a spinoff featuring what is out west.

I’ve spent more time than I should have looking at various GoT wikis over the past years. It really is a fascinating world.
Didn’t know about His Dark Materials series in the works. I will definitely be looking forward to that.

I don’t think there’s a show or movie series with a better ending. The entire second half of the last season was basically flawless.

It is a bit butchered. And it's a shame you can envision the way the book would flesh out the story lines. Rather than just letting characters drop dead.
